Personalized Immunotherapy For Lasting Allergy Relief
You’ve tried the antihistamines, the nasal sprays, the eye drops. They take the edge off for a few hours, then the sneezing, congestion, and itchy eyes come right back. Every season you brace yourself for the same misery, and every year you’re still only masking the symptoms, never touching the cause.
Traditional immunotherapy at Juniper Allergy in San Antonio takes a different approach. Instead of covering up your reactions, it gradually retrains your immune system to stop overreacting to the allergens that trigger you.
Dr. Amanda Trott-Gregorio builds a treatment plan around your exact allergens, so you can move toward lasting relief instead of another year of temporary fixes.

What Is Traditional Immunotherapy?
Traditional immunotherapy, often called allergy shots, is a proven long-term treatment that reduces your sensitivity to the allergens causing your symptoms.
After skin prick testing identifies your specific triggers, a personalized set of allergy vials is made containing the exact allergens you reacted to. During the induction phase, you begin receiving one shot (up to four) made from a cocktail of all the allergens that showed positivity on your skin prick test.
The dose starts out dilute and gradually becomes more concentrated over time. Rather than simply masking symptoms like medications do, immunotherapy works with your immune system, building genuine tolerance so your body reacts less and less to the things that once made you miserable.

What to Expect: The Traditional Immunotherapy Process
1
Initial Consultation
Our allergy specialist reviews your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle, and confirms your specific triggers through skin prick testing.
2
Induction Phase
You receive shots once a week for about six months. The allergen cocktail starts to dilute and gradually increases in concentration as your body builds tolerance.
3
Maintainance Phase
Once you reach your maintenance dose, you move to one shot every month, continuing for 3–5 years to lock in lasting tolerance.
4
Long-Term Relief
Over time, your immune system develops greater tolerance to your allergens, minimizing symptoms when you’re exposed to them in the real world.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does patch testing cost in San Antonio?
Cost depends on allergen panels needed and your insurance coverage. Most plans cover medically necessary patch testing. Call us at (210) 888-1297 before your appointment and our team will walk you through your costs clearly.
Is patch testing painful?
Patch testing is not painful, no needles, no scratching, no injections involved. You may feel mild itching at a test site during the 48 hours, which simply means your skin is responding to something worth investigating.
Is patch testing the same as a regular allergy test?
No, they test for completely different reactions. Standard testing identifies IgE-mediated allergies like hay fever. Patch testing identifies delayed hypersensitivity reactions responsible for contact dermatitis, the right test for recurring skin rashes from things you touch.
Can I shower or exercise during the 48 hours the patches are on?
Keep your back dry and avoid heavy sweating. No swimming or intense exercise during this period. Be careful when showering. Our team will give you specific practical guidance at your appointment so you know exactly what to do.
What if I test positive for something I use every day?
That is actually the best outcome, you have found the cause. Our team gives you a written list of ingredients to avoid and recommends specific alternatives. Most patients see real skin improvement within a few weeks of eliminating the trigger.
