Long Term Allergy Relief Built Around Your Triggers

Allergy Shots in San Antonio, TX

You’ve been dealing with sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, or year-round allergy flare-ups for as long as you can remember. You’ve cycled through antihistamines, nasal sprays, and eye drops, and while they take the edge off, the symptoms always come back. You’re tired of managing your allergies day by day and want something that actually works long term.

Allergy shots at Juniper Allergy in San Antonio offer a different path. Instead of covering up your symptoms, they gradually retrain your immune system so it stops overreacting to the allergens that trigger you in the first place.

Dr. Amanda Trott-Gregorio designs a personalized shot plan around your specific allergens, so you can move toward lasting relief and rely less on daily medications year after year.

What Are Allergy Shots?

Allergy shot being administered, highlighting common reactions and concerns.

Allergy shots, medically known as subcutaneous immunotherapy, are a proven long-term treatment that reduces your body’s sensitivity to the allergens causing your symptoms.

After skin prick testing pinpoints your exact triggers, a personalised vial is prepared containing the specific allergens you reacted to. During treatment, you receive small injections of these allergens, starting at a very dilute dose and gradually building up in concentration over time.

Unlike allergy medications that only mask symptoms while they’re in your system, allergy shots work directly with your immune system to build real, lasting tolerance.

Over the course of treatment, your body slowly learns to stop overreacting to the things that once made you miserable, whether that’s mountain cedar, dust mites, mold, pet dander, or seasonal pollen.

Our Team Of Allergy Specialists

Could Allergy Shots Be Right for You?

Your seasonal or year-round allergy symptoms keep coming back despite medication

You’re tired of relying on antihistamines, nasal sprays, or eye drops every day

Your allergies interfere with sleep, work, exercise, or time outdoors

You’ve tested positive for environmental allergens like pollen, dust mites, mould, or pet dander

You’ve had serious reactions to insect stings and want long-term protection

You want a treatment that addresses the cause, not just the symptoms

You’re looking for a solution that could reduce or eliminate your need for daily allergy medications

What to Expect: The Allergy Shots Process

1

Initial Consultation

Our allergy specialist reviews your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle, and confirms your specific triggers through skin prick or blood testing.

2

Build Up Phase

You receive shots on a regular schedule, usually weekly, with the dose starting to dilute and gradually increasing as your immune system builds tolerance to your allergens.

3

 Maintenance Phase

Once you reach your target dose, your shots space out to about once a month, continuing for 3–5 years to lock in lasting tolerance.

4

Long-term Relief

Over time, your immune system stops overreacting to your triggers, so real-world exposures cause fewer and milder symptoms and you rely less on daily allergy medications.

This review has been a long time coming. Everyone here at Juniper has been literally amazing! That said, every.single.staff member at Juniper Allergy has been very welcoming since I transferred here. Honestly, out of all the doctors and medical facilities I have been a patient of (and I see quite a bit more doctors than your average person would), I could not think of a more welcoming place to be a patient other than Juniper Allergy. Edit: I do want to thank Dr. Trott for her advocacy of all her patients ... including myself here. She is one of the very few doctors who has shown exemplary compassion and empathy to provide the best service for her patients. I want to express that I would not be here today had I not received the type of care she has given me for my mast cell activation disorder. So to me she is the equivalent of a superhero. As cliche as that sounds, it is probably easier to just say that she is my lifesaver and I don't think I can name any other doctor with this type of regards. -Adam B.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do allergy shots cost in San Antonio?

Cost depends on your treatment plan, the number of allergens included, and your insurance coverage. Most plans cover medically necessary allergy shots. Call us at (210) 888-1297 before your appointment and our team will walk you through your costs clearly.

How long do I have to be on allergy shots to see results?

Most patients start noticing fewer and milder symptoms within the first year of treatment. Full benefits build over the complete 3–5 year course, which is designed to give you lasting tolerance rather than short-term relief.

Will I have to stop taking my allergy medications?

No. You can usually continue your antihistamines, nasal sprays, or eye drops while building up on allergy shots. Over time, as your tolerance improves, many patients find they need those medications far less often.

What's the difference between allergy shots and allergy drops?

Allergy shots are given as injections in our office under an allergist’s supervision. Allergy drops (sublingual immunotherapy) are taken under the tongue at home. Both build tolerance, but they differ in delivery, schedule, and which allergens they best treat. We’ll help you decide which suits you.

Do allergy shots cause weight gain?

No, there is no scientific evidence linking allergy shots to weight gain. If anything, reducing chronic allergic inflammation can support better overall health and daily energy.
